5K run @ 5am in the morning along with thousand other brethren on my first Family Fun Run and it was FREE!! Life couldn't get better.
April 6, 2012. The Iglesia Ni Cristo Cebu South District held the very first Family Fun Run 2012. This was part of a celebration for the 75 years since the district was founded. The event was a success and thousands of brethren enjoyed, sweat and bonded with other members all across the main roads of Cebu. Members were pre-registered and had the choice to run either 1K, 3K or 5K.
As for me, you can't ever force me to do exercise. Well, actually I was very interested to join at least one fun run in my life but as lazy as I was, I can only stop at the "interested" level and never made an effort to tie up my shoelace and do it.
This event was different though, because aside from the fact that it was free, I can do it with my family. We were told to wear white and boy the effect was amazing. The whole street became a mixture of white and pinpricks of black.
So, I ran and jogged and smiled and waved at other people, called those whom I knew and eventually enjoyed every meter of the run. I sort of also met a lot of other brothers and sisters from different locales. Then we had to do a turn at our destinations and we were given straw necklaces as proof that we did the whole thing and did not do a shortcut :D . So now, that straw became an important memento.
By the way, thanks to google maps here was our route. We started from the Church then off to the streets of Cebu. I have marked the detours for each category.
Now, it makes me so proud that I got up early that day because:
1. My 6-year old cousin Erich, who was wearing the 1K run, reached the 3K and didn't even complain about it.In fact, she was enjoying it as she was brisk walking/ jogging with her mom,
2. My 8 cousin CJ, survived the 5K. (Gosh I'm older yet I conquered the same thing)
3. My cousins, Nikko, Andri, Eachan all did the 5K at a very good time frame. They claimed, they could have won a medal or something if we positioned ourselves up front instead of way at the back of the crowd when we started.
4. My Mama, my 2aunts and 2 uncles all were there. My sister who just graduated became part of the SSO, who takes care of the runners in cases of emergencies.
5. 5 Kilometers for me!! wohoo and I felt that I could still do more.
The sore muscles on my legs and arms the next day was nothing compared to the experience and the feeling of reaching the finish line with all of your family and all other members.
Wishing for more fun and more K's on the next fun run
Here is me at the Finish Line
